Mason Cox’s hopes of extending his AFL career may still come to fruition, with new reports suggesting Fremantle are keen on recruiting the ruck-forward. Cox was cut by Collingwood at the end of the 2025 season after 139 games, having first appeared on Anzac Day a decade ago.

The American big man also played a key role in the Pies’ premiership triumph three years back. The Age reports that the Dockers are considering Cox as a depth ruck option behind Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson.

Cox has also expressed interest in playing in the Northern Territory, saying he’s eager to join the Darwin competition. “Lots of people have reached out asking me to play in Darwin,” he said on ABC’s Summer Grandstand last month. “When I retire—hopefully in two years or so—I want to head to the Tiwi Islands. I’ve had amazing experiences there and would love to play a proper game on that oval.”

He’s also open to stepping into coaching and helping create pathways for American athletes to enter the AFL.
