They’re now playing the Philadelphia Phillies, who recently claimed a one-game lead in the division. The Mets’ starting pitching has struggled over the previous month or two. They have several high-quality arms on the injured list, including Kodai Senga, Sean Manaea, Frankie Montas, and Tylor Megill. This means the Mets will need an arm before the MLB trade deadline to improve their underperforming rotation.
New York has received consistent contributions from Clay Holmes, who is essentially their ace at this moment. Other players, such as young Blade Tidwell and veteran Paul Blackburn, may not be the solution. The Mets are struggling right now and were recently swept by the Atlanta Braves. The good news is that they haven’t fallen far in the standings.
The Mets should inquire about a Twins starting pitcher.It’s uncertain what direction the Minnesota Twins will take at the trade deadline. They are fourth in the AL Central, just below.500 with a record of 37-38. If they chose to sell, they have a few pitching assets that teams may be interested in.
One of these names could be Chris Paddack, the starting pitcher. Paddack may replace the starters mentioned, such as Tidwell and Blackburn, and serve as a valuable bottom-of-the-rotation piece for the New York Mets. He has routinely been able to start for Minnesota this season. He has started 15 games this season, pitched little over 80 innings, and has a 4.48 ERA and a 4.36 FIP. His numbers won’t blow you away, but he’ll be able to play every fifth day, and if the Twins aren’t contending, it’s a decent chance they’ll trade him before he hits free agency this offseason.
The Mets have World Series aspirations, and during the marathon that is the regular season, they must remain afloat and compete as best they can with their starting rotation. Paddack is a name to keep an eye on as the hot stove season begins and the calendar rolls to July.
Mets Rotation Deals With Numerous Injuries.
As previously stated, the New York Mets’ starting rotation has been hampered by injuries. Manaea, who was a standout for New York last season, is yet to pitch this season. The same goes for Frankie Montas, who the Mets acquired this summer. Projected Ace Kodai Senga was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a right hamstring injury and will miss at least a month during his recovery.
The Mets have the finest bullpen in baseball, but they will likely face a lot more pressure in the coming weeks if the rotation is unable to provide sustained productivity. A contract for Paddack would provide stability and relieve some of the pressure on the rest of the staff. In a trade like this, the Minnesota Twins may get a couple of mid-tier Mets prospects in return.
