Miami Heat president Pat Riley seems set on making a major overhaul to the team’s roster this offseason.
The Heat’s front office could pursue a top-tier star like Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Bucks or Kevin Durant of the Suns, or alternatively, make a bold move centered on the 2025 NBA Draft. Most believe Riley would prefer chasing a proven superstar, as he’s typically reluctant to embrace a full rebuild.
However, several teams across the league are better positioned to offer more competitive trade packages for players like Durant or Antetokounmpo. Because of this, FanSided suggests the Heat explore a youth-oriented approach—possibly orchestrating a blockbuster trade for the San Antonio Spurs’ No. 2 overall pick or securing Rutgers guard Dylan Harper.
According to the article, Miami would likely have to center the trade around All-Star big man Bam Adebayo, as there appears to be limited interest in Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, or the team’s other assets.
Harper’s ability to both score and facilitate would complement Herro well. In his freshman season at Rutgers, Harper posted averages of 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4 assists while shooting 48.4% from the field.
Under this scenario, the Heat wouldn’t face immediate pressure to contend, allowing Herro and Harper time to develop chemistry and giving the front office breathing room to construct a competitive roster.
For the Spurs, acquiring Adebayo would create a formidable defensive pairing with Victor Wembanyama. With his versatile defense and offensive skills reminiscent of Draymond Green, Adebayo could be an ideal fit in San Antonio’s system.
Ultimately, the trade hinges on whether Pat Riley is committed to continuing the push for a title now—or ready to pivot toward building for the future.
