Salmon appeared to mouth the words “weak gutted dog” after scoring a try against Ricky Stuart’s Raiders, referencing their ongoing feud. Shortly after, Salmon suffered an ankle injury and had to be helped off the field during the Bulldogs’ 32-20 victory over Canberra. Scans later confirmed he fractured his ankle and will need surgery, sidelining him for up to 10 weeks.
The 26-year-old was visibly limping before leaving the field in the 67th minute, replaced by Harry Hayes. He returned to the sideline on crutches with ice on his ankle. Bulldogs football boss Phil Gould shared the diagnosis on X, stating Salmon would require surgery and face a lengthy recovery, concluding, “That’s football.”
Salmon’s injury adds to coach Cameron Ciraldo’s challenges, as the Bulldogs are already missing Josh Curran, Sitili Tupouniua, and Jacob Preston due to suspensions. The team is set to play the Roosters on Friday night.
