The Washington Commanders head into the 2025 season as serious Super Bowl contenders, with expectations higher than ever.
In a surprising turn last year, the Commanders wrapped up the regular season with a 12-5 record and made a deep playoff run, reaching the NFC Championship for the first time since 1991.
Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has become a rising star in the league, earning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and setting numerous records. His emergence has transformed Washington into a top NFC threat.
To support Daniels, the Commanders spent the offseason acquiring top-tier talent. They traded for versatile 49ers wideout Deebo Samuel, and in a shocking move, also landed star left tackle Laremy Tunsil from the Texans.
During the NFL Draft, Washington used their first-round pick on Oregon offensive lineman Josh Connerly Jr., expected to switch to right tackle, underscoring their commitment to protecting Daniels—especially in a division stacked with elite pass rushers.
Despite their offensive upgrades, the defense also needed attention, especially after losing key players from last season. In Round 2 of the draft, they addressed a critical need by selecting Ole Miss cornerback Trey Amos, a player some scouts graded as a first-round talent.
USA Today’s Nate Davis suggests this addition could make cornerback Marshon Lattimore—acquired midseason in 2024—expendable and a potential trade piece.
