Splashsports News reports that a cottage once linked to Led Zeppelin is set to become the world’s newest micro-nation—and it’s inviting people to join.
Bron yr Aur, located in the southern edge of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, was once a childhood holiday spot for Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant. Now, it’s breaking away to form its own independent nation.
The cottage, owned by former record label executive Scott Roe, has long drawn fans of the iconic band—many of whom have shown up uninvited, hoping to visit, take photos, or even move in.
Scott is now channeling that attention into something bigger, calling on people who see Bron yr Aur as a place of inspiration and wonder to become citizens of the newly declared Bron yr Aur (Hill of Gold) Independent Nation.
He plans to set up embassies around the world and has already enlisted Grammy-winner Chance McCoy to compose a national anthem. The vision includes its own healthcare, currency, foreign aid, and taxes.
This month, Bron yr Aur begins its campaign to find its first 500 founding citizens.
Scott, who lives there with his teenage daughter, says the cottage is more than just a piece of rock history—it’s an off-grid home with no internet and grows the majority of their produce.
Now an ecologist and musician performing as Boohai, Scott says Bron yr Aur has always felt like a world of its own. It’s something even Jimmy Page—who revisited the site in 2023—recognized and discussed with him at length.
“It’s really his fault,” Scott jokes. “Being off-grid becomes more powerful as time passes—it’s something people deeply crave. The people who visit, no matter where they’re from, often see Bron yr Aur not just as a Zeppelin landmark, but as a peaceful escape from the noise of the world. That’s the real magic that led to this idea.”
