The Detroit Lions’ top need is still the same as it was at the beginning of free agency, and the NFL Draft is just over a week away.
The necessity to add a stronger alternative as their backup starting edge rusher has not yet been addressed by the organization.
Although most of the free agent possibilities are now gone, they might still target a few good players.
One veteran edge who has played for the Miami Dolphins for the past five seasons is among them.
The Lions should target former Dolphins edge Emmanuel Ogbah, according to an article by Mark Stolte of Pro Football and Sports Network that lists one player each NFL team should still sign this offseason.
Ogbah is among the Lions’ top options available on the free agent market.
Ogbah has been a reliable contributor throughout his career, but Marcus Davenport is a huge wild card due to his injury history. Six of his nine NFL seasons have seen him record at least five sacks.
This includes a 2024 campaign in which he added 33 total pressures and six sacks for the Dolphins.
This past season, he was also formidable against the run. With 26 stops, Ogbah ranked 28th among edge rushers, per Pro Football Focus.
Additionally, considering that he only cost the Dolphins $3.25 million in 2024, he shouldn’t be too costly.
His addition would provide the Lions with a reliable edge-of-the-field backup until a more permanent candidate is prepared to take his place.
He is still someone the Lions should consider as a late addition to their roster, and he was one of the alternatives I liked when I wrote about the team needing a “bridge” edge.
