Manchester United are reportedly considering a bold swap deal that would see midfielder Manuel Ugarte move to Sunderland in exchange for the Black Cats’ rising star, Noah Sadiki.
According to GiveMeSport, the Red Devils are prepared to use the Uruguayan international as “trade bait” to land one of the Premier League’s most promising young talents.
Ugarte’s future at Old Trafford uncertain
Manuel Ugarte’s time at Manchester United seems to be coming to an early end. Signed for £42 million under former manager Ruben Amorim with high expectations, the midfielder has struggled to adapt to the Premier League’s intensity and has yet to secure a regular starting spot.
Interim manager Michael Carrick has already made his mark, leading the team to an impressive victory over Manchester City in his first game back. Carrick opted for a double pivot of Kobbie Mainoo and veteran Casemiro against City—a decision that proved highly effective.
This setup indicates that Carrick views Mainoo and Casemiro as his preferred midfield foundation, leaving Ugarte likely to feature mainly from the bench.
With the club seeking to “follow Amorim’s approach” in offloading the player while reinvesting in a new target, Ugarte is now seen as a tradeable asset rather than a long-term cornerstone for United.
Noah Sadiki shining at Sunderland
Sunderland’s Noah Sadiki has emerged as a revelation since the club’s return to the Premier League. The 20-year-old joined from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise for £15 million in the summer and has quickly become one of Sunderland’s standout performers.
His energy, tactical awareness, and ability to disrupt opponents’ play have been key to the Black Cats’ strong start to the season. Internally described as an “incredible” talent, Sadiki fits the dynamic, high-ceiling profile United are eager to recruit.
While Sunderland may be hesitant to let go of their summer signing so soon, the opportunity to acquire an established international like Ugarte in exchange could be highly appealing.
