Yamaha Proudly Announces the 2026 Yamaha 70th Edition YZ500 2-Stroke

Yamaha Motor Corporation proudly introduces the 2026 Yamaha 70th Edition YZ500 2-Stroke, a bold tribute to seven decades of innovation, racing excellence, and engineering mastery. As the company celebrates its 70th anniversary, this iconic machine brings back the raw power, spirit, and soul of two-stroke racing in a form that’s been carefully engineered for the modern era.

The YZ500 2-Stroke stands as a symbol of Yamaha’s commitment to performance and passion. Drawing inspiration from legendary models like the YZ490 and YZ250, the new YZ500 is a completely reimagined large-bore two-stroke motocross bike that blends nostalgic power with contemporary precision. Featuring a liquid-cooled, 499cc single-cylinder two-stroke engine, the YZ500 delivers blistering acceleration, high-revving intensity, and that unmistakable two-stroke soundtrack that generations of riders have come to revere.

Designed for purists and thrill-seekers alike, this special edition model features an ultra-lightweight aluminum frame optimized for rigidity and handling, KYB Speed-Sensitive System suspension, and cutting-edge braking components for total control on the track. Yamaha engineers have worked relentlessly to make the YZ500 not just a throwback, but a trailblazer—implementing electric start, digital CDI ignition, and a customizable power valve system for rider-tailored performance.

To commemorate Yamaha’s 70th anniversary, the YZ500 2-Stroke is adorned in a special retro-livery reminiscent of the brand’s golden racing years. It features classic Yamaha speed block graphics in white, yellow, and black, forged in a modern layout that honors the past while accelerating into the future. A serialized 70th Anniversary badge is riveted to the frame of each unit, marking it as part of a limited production run.

“The return of a large-displacement two-stroke motocross machine has been one of the most requested revivals among our enthusiast community,” said Yuji Tsuruta, Yamaha’s Head of Global Off-Road Development. “With the 70th Edition YZ500, we’re not just bringing back a legend—we’re redefining what it means to ride one.”

Performance riders and collectors will appreciate the modern updates integrated into this heritage-driven design. Features such as an updated intake and exhaust system for enhanced throttle response, lightweight forged piston for improved durability, and an ergonomic body design make the 2026 YZ500 a weapon on the track and a piece of history in the garage.

Available in limited numbers at select Yamaha dealerships worldwide starting early 2026, the YZ500 70th Edition is more than a motorcycle—it’s a celebration of Yamaha’s unwavering dedication to competition, community, and craftsmanship. Whether you’re lining up at the gate or reliving memories of two-stroke glory, the YZ500 delivers a ride that’s as unforgettable as the legacy it honors
