Last year, Miami Heat president Pat Riley used his end-of-season press conference to criticize guard Tyler Herro, calling him “fragile” due to his injury history. This year, however, Riley shifted his tone, using the same setting to praise Herro.
“He’s one of the league’s most explosive offensive players, and we’re glad he’s with us,” Riley said during Friday’s 43-minute media session at the Kaseya Center. “He’s 25 or 26, just had an All-Star season, recognized by the coaches—that means a lot. Still, that doesn’t necessarily mean the Heat will offer Herro a contract extension when he becomes eligible in October. Riley suggested the team might wait until next offseason to revisit the possibility.
