Raiders Committed to Geno Smith but Eyeing Future QB Options
The Las Vegas Raiders have solidified their commitment to veteran quarterback Geno Smith for at least the next two seasons, with the possibility of extending that to a third year if his performance meets expectations. Despite this commitment, at 34 years old, Smith is not considered the long-term answer for the franchise.
The Raiders addressed their quarterback depth late in the draft, selecting Cam Miller from North Dakota State in the sixth round. While Miller brings potential, it’s unlikely that he is viewed as the team’s future franchise quarterback.
Smith’s multi-year contract does provide Las Vegas with some breathing room, allowing them to be strategic in their search for a long-term solution under center. It’s expected that the Raiders will continue to scout and evaluate quarterbacks in upcoming drafts as they look for their next cornerstone player.
One name that may already be on their radar is Nebraska’s Dylan Raiola. Once a highly touted prospect, Raiola faced challenges during his freshman season, finishing with 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Though his performance was underwhelming, his youth and potential for growth still make him a player to watch.
Interestingly, Raiola has already expressed interest in playing for the Raiders. During a recent interview on the “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast, he admitted to feeling disappointed when Cam Ward was selected first overall by the Titans in the 2025 NFL Draft. “I wanted to get drafted by Tennessee or Vegas,” Raiola shared.
Although Raiola isn’t eligible for the draft until at least 2027, his timeline could align well with the Raiders’ search for a future quarterback if he continues to develop. For now, though, he still has much to prove before he can seriously consider which NFL team might call his name.
